Taxis
There are many taxis in Korea and they are cheap. You can hell a taxi anywhere and you can find them easily in animated districts. Some taxis can be called by phone but the ask for higher fees.
There are two kind of taxis. "Deluxe" taxis, black colored, more comfortable than the ordinary taxis, gray colored. They are also more expensive.
- Fees of ordinary taxis : The first two kilometers cost 1 900 wons and each additional portion of 144 m costs 100 wons. If the taxi runs at a speed lower than 15 km/h, a supplement of 100 wons is added every 35 seconds. Fees increase by 20 % from midnight to 4am.
- Fees of"Deluxe"taxis : 4 500 wons for the first 3 kilometers and an additional 200 wons for each portion of 164 m. If the taxi runs at a speed lower than 15 km/h, a supplement of 100 wons is added every 39 seconds. Fees are the same during the day and the night.
Subway
Fastest means of transport in Seoul, the subway is convinient to use even for foreigners: you can consult the map in each station. It is often placed above the counter where the tickets are sold. On the majority of the charts and maps, the name of the destinations are written in Korean and an alphabetical transcription is given as well. Numbers indicated in maps (900, 1000, etc.) correspond to the sum you will pay between the station where you are and the destination concerned. The subway's network of the capital counts eight different lines, which are in service from 5am to midnight. At peak hours, the oars are often crammed. The basic fee for a ticket is 1000 wons (900 let wons if you use a card).
Bus
The bus can be a convienient means of transport if you can read Korean. There are two kind of bus, standards (blue, green and yellow colored) and the red buses. The prices will vary from 1000 wons for the standard buses and 1500 wons for the red buses.
