Quarantine Conditions for inbound travelers in Korea (UPDATES)

Quarantine Conditions for inbound travelers (Foreigners and Korean Nationals) in Korea

In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, all inbound travelers are required to quarantine themselves for 14 days upon their arrival in Korea. (UPDT Jan 11th)

You are a foreign resident returning to Korea

Foreign nationals who reside in Korea will self-quarantine at their place of residence. The transfer from Incheon Airport to your residence should be with your private car or specially designated limousine bus or KTX.

  • The spouse and lineal descendants of Korean national or long-term residents of Korea may self-quarantine in the Korean national/long-term resident's place of residence instead of government facility by providing official family relations documents.
  • Since January 8th, travelers are now required to do a Covid-19 test within 72 hours prior to entry (check the Korean Embassy in France website for more info) and shall undergo a symptoms screening procedure at Incheon airport. If no symptoms are detected, the traveler can go by private car or taxi to his/her place of residence, then proceed to a Covid-19 test at the nearest center within the 14 days of quarantine (check below the end of quarantine procedure). If symptoms are detected, the traveler will be subject to a Covid-19 test at the airport and will have to wait at the airport until further notice.
  • All inbound travelers have to take a second Covid-19 test within 3 days of their arrival. Visitors will be tested automatically at their quarantine facility. Residents have to go by foot to the nearest public test center. Usage of public transportation is not allowed. Please call the KCDC hotline at 1339 (available 24/7) to know about the nearest test center.
  • During your quarantine, you shall download the 'Self Diagnosis' application and fill in your status twice a day. You will receive also a phone call from the KCDC everyday to check on your status.
  • Under no conditions, except emergencies and to go do the Covid-19 test at the end of the quarantine, you must leave your place of residence. Smokers are encouraged to find alternatives.

  • A-1, A-2 and A-3 visa holders with negative test results from Covid-19 diagnostic testing will be subjected to "Active Monitoring" (instead of 14 days quarantine), which includes daily submission of health status information via the 'Self Diagnosis App' and phone calls from health authorities throughout their stay in Korea.
  • Visitors who are issued with "Isolation Exemption Certificate" from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea prior the trip.

In order to apply for "Isolation Exemption Certificate", the visit must be related to important and urgent business (contract, investment, technical advisory), or humanitarian reasons.  Processing time: At least 4 working days if there is no urgent issue.

You are a foreign visitor (non-resident)

Foreign short-term visitors must also undergo the same procedure at Incheon Airport and the 14 days self-quarantine.  You shall go to the designated quarantine facility by specially designated cars, available at the airport.

  • From April 13th, the bilateral French-Korean agreement that does not require visa for short-term stay (less than 90 days) is suspended. Therefore, all short-term visitors shall apply to the relevant visa to their situation. Please refer to this link for more details.
  • They shall serve the quarantine at a designated government facility at their own cost (KRW 2,100,000 per person). The Facility Quarantine Agreement must be completed and submitted to the airlines. See Attachment 1 in this link.
  • They shall download the the latest version of 'Self Diagnosis App' (click) prior to entry in Korea and conduct self diagnosis twice a day. You will receive also a phone call from the KCDC everyday to check on your status.
  • Under no conditions, except emergencies, you must leave your quarantine facility. Smokers are encouraged to find alternatives.
  • Packages of food and other necessities will be provided to you.

End of Quarantine

After the 14 days of quarantine, if the local authorities assess the person is still at risk, it could require a third PCR test. If not considered at risk, the third PCR test is not obligatory.
