Weekly Focus | Economic Trends – South Korea’s Labor Market Adds 292,000 Jobs in Q1 2026

South Korea’s labor market continued to expand in the first quarter of 2026, adding 292,000 wage jobs year-on-year and bringing the total to 20.82 million, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics.
The increase was primarily driven by service-oriented sectors, with health and social welfare adding 127,000 jobs and accommodation and food services gaining 59,000.
Employment growth was also strong across several age groups. Workers aged 60 and over recorded the largest increase (+233,000), followed by those in their 30s (+115,000) and 50s (+40,000).
The latest figures highlight the continued evolution of Korea’s labor market, with service-sector demand and broader participation across key age groups supporting employment growth.
