Internship in Korea

With 3.1% economic growth in 2017, South Korea had a strong economy and offered employment opportunities across a wide range of sectors. The country positioned itself as a major economic hub in Asia, home to numerous international companies and increasingly attracting expatriates.

As the country became more open to the global economy, foreign workers became increasingly valuable for accessing new markets and developing international projects. Growing trade between South Korea and French-speaking countries, particularly through free trade agreements with the EU and Canada, also created opportunities for French speakers.

Doing an internship in South Korea can provide students with an opportunity to discover the professional environment and prepare for an international career. Recruiting a foreign intern can also benefit companies in Korea, as they can gain insight into the French market and benefit from a different and complementary perspective alongside their Korean employees.

However, internships in Korean companies remain relatively difficult for foreign applicants to access. They are also often unpaid or poorly paid and relatively short, typically taking place during the summer or winter holidays.

Foreign candidates also face increased competition from and among Korean students, who are affected by youth unemployment and often view internships as an opportunity for future employment.
