France–Korea: Ministers Strengthen Trade Cooperation
France and South Korea are taking a new step in their economic and industrial partnership with the establishment of a Strategic Industrial Dialogue, a new ministerial-level cooperation channel covering strategic industries, trade and supply chains.
The initiative follows talks in Paris between South Korean Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan and Roland Lescure, France’s Minister for the Economy, Finance, Industry, Energy and Digital Sovereignty. The new framework will enable both countries to deepen discussions on industrial policy, industrial technologies, trade and investment, supply chains, economic security and critical minerals, supported by working-level groups dedicated to specific sectors.
Minister Kim highlighted the importance of using this new dialogue to address challenges faced by Korean companies in France while identifying new cooperation opportunities in advanced industries and strategic supply chains. He also called for fair treatment of Korean-made electric vehicles under France’s EV subsidy scheme and for Korea to be recognized as a trusted industrial partner within the EU’s evolving industrial policy framework.
The initiative comes amid President Lee Jae-myung’s visit to France, which is bringing further momentum to bilateral economic relations and opening discussions on new opportunities for cooperation between French and Korean industries.
