France–Korea: strategic industries at the heart of stronger economic cooperation
As President Lee Jae-myung visits France on September 8, France and Korea are looking to further strengthen their economic and industrial partnership, particularly in strategic and high-tech sectors.
Semiconductors, AI, aerospace, space, energy, quantum technologies and biotechnology are among the areas offering significant potential for deeper cooperation.
In an interview with Institut Montaigne, Philippe Li, Vice-President of the FKCCI, Chairman of KEY and Partner at Kim & Chang, shares his perspective on how the strengths of both economies can support new opportunities for cooperation.
France’s capabilities in research and innovation, combined with Korea’s expertise in industrialization, large-scale production and exports, could pave the way for new joint projects and further integrate French companies into Korean value chains.
While France and Korea remain competitors in certain industries, new partnerships are already taking shape. The recently announced €3 billion investment by Air Liquide to acquire DIG Airgas, strengthening its ties with SK Hynix, is one example of this growing industrial dynamic.
