IDEMIA facilitates fast travel in Asia: case of Singapore’s Changi Airport

With experience in biometrics and automated border control, the French IT company IDEMIA provided solutions for Singapore Changi Airport. Another reference for the company in Asia, which also opened a branch in Korea!

IDEMIA’s solution involves 3 main products:
- Biometric capture of passengers to facilitate automated bag drop, immigration and boarding
- Automated immigration and boarding gates
- Passenger process facilitation platform, linking various airport and airlines systems.

In 2018, for the 6th year in a row, Singapore Changi Airport was ranked the world’s number 1 airport. At the same time, Changi Terminal 4 was completed in 2017 with the goal of redefining the travel experience. With an annual passenger carrying capacity of 16 million passengers, a clear focus on convenience for bag-drop, airside clearance and passport control and boarding was required. Terminal 4 was designed to introduce a fully automated departure process. FAST (Fast And Seamless Travel) is the guiding principle behind the processes that combine these competing priorities of convenience and security.

IDEMIA answered to these needs by implementing their solutions, which have assisted Changi Airport in attaining shorter queues and more satisfied passengers. Changi has also been able to reduce the resources required to process passengers.
