France is experiencing an unprecedented political situation in the history of the 5th Republic. Following the French presidential election and the legislative election held respectively in April and June this year, President Emmanuel Macron was reelected but his party did not get the absolute majority at the Parliament and could not achieve coalition, as new dynamics of political balance have emerged. 

Considering recent news such as the general policy speech by PM Elisabeth Borne to the National Assembly, and major law projects to come such as purchasing power or sanitary security, our guest, economist and historian Nicolas Baverez, will share with you his insights on the situation which questions political and institutional foundations of the French Democracy.

Economist and historian, Nicolas Baverez is a columnist in Le Point and Le Figaro and the author of several books including recently L’Alerte démocratique, Reconstructions and Le Monde selon Tocqueville.

Member of the Executive Committee of Commentary magazine and treasurer of the Société des Amis de Raymond Aron, he is also Avocat à la Cour d'Appel in Paris, France, Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
