AMI Labs: A French AI Champion Emerges with a Record $1B Seed Round in Europe

The global artificial intelligence landscape has reached a new milestone with the announcement that AMI Labs has secured more than $1 billion in seed funding, equivalent to approximately €890–900 million. The transaction is widely considered the largest seed round ever raised by a European company, highlighting both the accelerating pace of investment in AI and the growing international visibility of the European deep-tech ecosystem.
Founded by Yann LeCun, Turing Award laureate and former Chief AI Scientist at Meta, AMI Labs is built around a bold scientific vision: developing a new generation of artificial intelligence based on “world models.” These systems aim to move beyond purely language-based AI by learning from video streams and real-world environments, enabling machines to better understand physical interactions, anticipate outcomes, and reason about the world in a more structured way.
This approach represents a major shift in the field of AI research. While recent advances have been largely driven by large language models, the concept of world models seeks to enable AI systems capable of perception, prediction, planning, and interaction within complex environments. Such technologies could have transformative implications across multiple industries, including robotics, autonomous systems, mobility, manufacturing, and advanced simulation.
AMI Labs is led by Alexandre LeBrun, a French entrepreneur with a strong international track record in technology and innovation. His experience spans multiple successful ventures and positions him among the leading figures shaping the next generation of AI entrepreneurship in Europe.
The announcement also carries a particular resonance for the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) community. Alexandre LeBrun previously co-founded Asiance in 2004 alongside Bousn Kim and Olivier Mouroux. Today, Olivier Mouroux serves as Vice-President of the Board of the FKCCI, illustrating the long-standing connections between members of the Chamber’s network and global technology innovation.
Beyond the scale of the funding round itself, the emergence of AMI Labs reflects the growing momentum of the French and European AI ecosystems, which are increasingly positioning themselves at the forefront of global research and technological development. France in particular has strengthened its position in artificial intelligence through a dynamic combination of world-class research institutions, ambitious public investment, and a rapidly expanding startup landscape.
As AI continues to evolve and reshape industries worldwide, initiatives such as AMI Labs demonstrate the ability of European innovators to contribute meaningfully to the next generation of technological breakthroughs.
The French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) is proud to see members connected to its network contributing to this new chapter in artificial intelligence and to the broader global innovation ecosystem.
