FKCCI participates in the Roundtable with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Seoul

On September 24, 2025, Mr. David-Pierre Jalicon, Chairman of the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), joined leaders from major foreign chambers in Korea at a high-level Roundtable hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

This was the first such meeting chaired by Minister Jung-Kwan Kim since his appointment, marking a renewed momentum for dialogue between the Korean government and the international business community.

In his presentation, Mr. Sang-Hee Park, Director for Foreign Investment Policy Division, outlined Korea’s strategy to attract FDI in AI, semiconductors, biotechnology, future mobility, and other advanced industries. He also announced measures to strengthen investment incentives, align the FDI framework with global standards, and expand government R&D budgets for foreign-invested companies.

Speaking on behalf of FKCCI, Mr. Jalicon underlined the symbolic importance of 2026, when both the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea and the 40th anniversary of FKCCI will be celebrated. He also highlighted Air Liquide’s €2.85 billion acquisition of DIG Airgas, a landmark investment reflecting French confidence in Korea’s economy. Minister Kim welcomed this investment, saluted the commitment of French companies, and reaffirmed his readiness to support FKCCI and its members in developing further opportunities. He also expressed his hope to welcome President Macron next year and confirmed his willingness to work closely with FKCCI, including through a dedicated event with MOTIE.

During the exchange, chamber representatives raised concerns over the recent revision of the Labor Union Act, noting potential challenges for foreign-invested companies. They also suggested additional regulatory reforms to facilitate business activity and strengthen cooperation in strategic industries such as AI, energy, and mobility. Minister Kim acknowledged these concerns, stressed the importance of creating a predictable business environment, and pledged to work with the Ministry of Employment and Labor to develop balanced follow-up measures.

As the third largest foreign chamber in Korea, FKCCI remains committed to advancing open dialogue, addressing regulatory challenges, and supporting a stronger, more innovative investment climate in Korea.
