Invitation to the opening ceremony of the exhibition "From the Infinite to the Center"
The Korea Foundation and the French Embassy in Seoul present an exhibition From the Infinite to the Center, to commemorate 130th year of Korea-France diplomatic relations. 한국국제교류재단은 한 - 불 수교 130주년을 기념하여 주한프랑스대사관과 함께 프랑스의 새로운 문화를 소개하는 <무한에서 중심으로> 전시를 개최합니다.
Purpose of the Exhibition
To celebrate the 130 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, the Korea Foundation and the French Embassy in Seoul introduces the cultural landscape of France through artworks of Jocelyn Akwaba-Matignon from the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe. France with a number of territories outside the mainland is the third largest country in Europe after Russia and Ukraine. Emerging out of the large territory, the richly diverse ethnic, historical and cultural identities of France are merged together in the philosophic quest for the existence.
Introduction of the Artist
Artist Painter living in Guadeloupe, born in 1961, titular from the Higher National Diploma of Visual Art, Jocelyn Akwaba-Matignon has realized, regularly for twenty-five years, exhibitions here and elsewhere, where it reveals his artistic research on the multiple facets of his origins. His triangular course (Europe-Africa-America) with the image of his logo, is a quest of Being, a research and a permanent questioning on the magic of the world and the mystery of the life. Currently, it offers us an American crossing with the Native American part of our “Being Caribbean”. He also conducts research on sacred geometry, the myths of Mesoamerica, the Native American spirituality, the alchemical quest, symbolic numbers, the strength of Mother Earth, the mystery of the masks, on the unseen or revealed to our consciousness, the illusion of the visible world. He takes us into the space of the subtle and the unspeakable.

전시 의도
한국국제교류재단과 프랑스문화원은 한국-프랑스 수교 130주년을 기념하여, 프랑스령 과달루프 (Guadeloupe) 태생의 예술가 죠셀린 아크와바 마티뇽 (Jocelyn Akwaba-Matignon)의 최근 작품을 통하여 프랑스의 문화적 지평과 예술관을 소개하고자 한다. 프랑스는 본토 외에 세계 여러 곳에 영토를 거느린, 러시아, 우크라이나에 이어 유럽 국가 중 세 번째로 면적이 넓은 나라이다. 프랑스의 드넓은 영토로부터 뻗어 나오는 다양한 인종적, 역사적, 문화적 정체성은 프랑스와 유럽을 넘어 다원적 전통과 영감, 철학을 담고 있다.
작가 소개
1961년 과들루프 태생 화가 겸 예술가이며, 조형표현 고등국가학위(DNSEP, Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique) 소지자인 조슬랭 아크와바-마티뇽(Jocelyn Akwaba-Matignon)은 25년 전부터 정기적으로 국내외에서 전시회를 가지고 있다. 그는 이러한 전시회들을 통해 자신이 가진 여러 혈통에서 비롯된 다양한 양상들에 대한 예술적인 연구의 베일을 벗겨 보인다. 그 자신을 상징하는 로고(logo)의 모델이 된 그의 3개 대륙 (유럽-아프리카-아메리카) 여정은 인간존재의 탐구이며 또한, 삶의 미스터리와 세상의 마법 같은 현상들에 대한 끊임없는 문제제기이자 탐색이다.
