FKCCI signs cooperation agreement and discusses the future of electric vehicles at international expo in Jeju

On May 2nd, the FKCCI participated at the 10th anniversary ceremony of “CFI 2030 Jeju” & Korea-EU EV Leaders Round Table Program to discuss the future of electric vehicles at Jeju Booyoung Hotel. This ceremony was hosted by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Global EV Association Network, and organized by International Electric Vehicle Expo, and Carbon Free Island Jeju (CFI Jeju).

After the opening of CFI 10th Anniversary Ceremony, Ms. Yun Sun-Jin, Co-Chairperson of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality and green Growth Commission of the Republic of Korea, Ms. María Castillo Fernández, Ambassador of the EU, and Mr. Yoon, Hyeong Seok, Director of the Future Strategic Industry Bureau of Jeju-Province, followed with keynote speeches.

During part 2 on the theme “Korea-EU Electric Vehicle Industry and Mutual Cooperation”, Mr. Cedric Legrand, CEO of FKCCI and Dr. Martin Henkelmann, CEO of KGCCI introduced topics of interest to find synergies between Korean and European EV industries. In particular, Mr. Cedric Legrand tackled perspectives on the present and future of EU electric vehicle.

He emphasized that Europe is now a worldwide center of the EVs growth, with its sales share of 18% in 2021. Most of EVs sold in Europe are either European or Korean; VW Group has 25% of market share for BEV in 2021 and Hyundai and Kia ranked 4th and 6th respectively as most-registered BEV brands in Europe in the same year. Moreover, European EV market is driven by government policies such as purchase incentives for EVs and implementation of cities with zero-emissions zones. In order to further increase the EV market growth, international cooperation will play a crucial role, on issues such as for the global supply chain to avoid material shortages and industrial bottlenecks.

This expo was also an occasion to sign an MoU with the International Electrical Vehicle Expo Organizing Committee (IEVE) to actively cooperate for the growth of e-Mobility and Green Energy-related businesses.
