Strengthening Franco-Korean Legal Ties, Visit of the Paris Bar and MOU with the Seoul Bar Association
On Thursday, July 24, 2025, the FKCCI had the honor of welcoming a distinguished delegation from the Paris Bar Association, led by Mr. Pierre Hoffmann, Bâtonnier of Paris, accompanied by Mr. Christian Dargham, Partner and Member of the Paris Bar Council, and other senior representatives.
This meeting, held at our Seoul offices, was an opportunity to discuss the legal and regulatory challenges faced by French businesses in Korea, while exploring new paths for collaboration between the legal and business communities of France and Korea.
The following day, Friday, July 25, 2025, a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Paris Bar Association and the Seoul Bar Association, led by its President, Mr. Jo Soon Youl. During the signing ceremony, Mr. Jo Soon Youl emphasized that “France and Korea share the same values when it comes to human rights and justice.” He also highlighted the work of the association’s Europe & Oceania Sub-Committee, one of its five internal committees, which is currently developing a comparative analysis of French and Korean law.
Mr. Pierre Hoffmann, whose term as Bâtonnier of the Paris Bar concludes this year, stressed the long-standing ties between the two institutions, declaring: “Lawyers across the world form a single extended family and today it is a beautiful confirmation of that. I am deeply honored to be here to celebrate our partnership which is above all a friendship. We want to make our ties stronger, to encourage meetings, conversations, and especially training opportunities for our lawyers.”
He also added: “I know these times are challenging for us all. Across the world, the rule of law is under pressure, but we cannot face these challenges alone. No one lawyer can. That is why unity matters, why cooperation matters, why dialogue matters.”
The FKCCI was honored to attend this landmark event and reaffirms its commitment to fostering dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding between France and Korea in the fields of law, business, and beyond.
