France–Korea Relations – French President Emmanuel Macron to Visit Korea for State Visit

French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to the Republic of Korea on April 2–3, where he will meet with President Lee Jae Myung for a bilateral summit in Seoul.

According to the presidential office, the two leaders are scheduled to hold summit talks on April 3 and sign several memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between France and Korea. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of strategic areas, including trade and investment, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, space, nuclear energy, as well as science and technology, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

This will be President Macron’s first visit to Korea since taking office in 2017 and the first state visit by a French president to the country in more than a decade. The meeting will also mark the third in-person exchange between Presidents Lee and Macron, following previous discussions on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada and the G20 Summit in South Africa in 2025.

The visit takes place in a particularly symbolic year, as France and Korea celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The two countries established formal ties in 1886 with the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between France and the Joseon Dynasty.

As a key platform supporting economic cooperation between the two countries, the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) will closely follow the developments surrounding this visit and share further information soon regarding initiatives, meetings and events related to this important milestone in France–Korea relations.
