Energy Committee : Korea Energy Transition Insights from Former Ministers and Industry Leaders

On April 14, the FKCCI gathered its members at Parnas Tower in Seoul for a new Energy Committee session, bringing together key figures from Korea’s energy and policy landscape, including former Minister Moon Sung Wook, former Deputy Minister of Environment Lee Min Ho, and former President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Jung Young Eek, alongside industry experts and representatives of the Franco-Korean business community.

The session opened with an overview of Korea’s energy policy, highlighting an ongoing transition shaped by energy security considerations, rising electricity demand, and climate objectives. Discussions emphasized the evolving role of the government in structuring the market, as well as the growing importance of nuclear energy, renewables, and emerging technologies such as SMRs in supporting a balanced energy mix.

Introduced by Vincent Boulanger, President of the FKCCI Energy Committee, the discussion then explored the operational environment for companies in Korea. In a context of economic and regulatory transformation, participants shared perspectives on investment dynamics, market structures, and the evolution of the policy framework.

Access to green electricity was also highlighted as an important topic, reflecting broader global trends and the increasing alignment of industries with decarbonization objectives.

Overall, the session provided valuable insights into Korea’s energy transition and underscored the importance of continued dialogue between public and private stakeholders to support the sector’s development.
