FKCCI Updates | Economy – A New Demographic Chapter for France and Its Economy

In 2025, France recorded more deaths than births for the first time since World War II. With 645,000 babies born, the country has reached a historic demographic turning point that raises both social and economic questions.
In response, the French government has launched a national fertility plan in February 2026, positioning demographic trends as a strategic public policy issue. The objective is not to direct personal choices, but to better inform citizens and strengthen healthcare systems.
By the end of summer, all French citizens aged 29 will receive an official message providing information on fertility timelines, reproductive health, medically assisted reproduction, and gamete preservation options. The plan also aims to expand preservation centers and improve infertility diagnosis and research.
As the Ministry of Health stated, “The role of public policy is not to dictate choices, but to open possibilities.”
This initiative signals that demographics are no longer seen as a private matter alone, but as a key component of France’s long-term economic outlook.
