FKCCI Updates | Economy – France and Korea Reaffirm Commitment to Multilateralism

France and South Korea reaffirmed the strength of their bilateral relationship during a meeting between Foreign Ministers Cho Hyun and Jean-Noël Barrot, held in France on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. This exchange highlighted the depth of political dialogue and the shared commitment to advancing cooperation on key international and strategic issues.
Both ministers reiterated their strong attachment to multilateralism and to a rules-based international order, while expressing continued support for Ukraine and emphasizing the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in key maritime areas such as the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, France also initiated discussions with international partners to strengthen coordination on maritime security.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review progress on bilateral cooperation ahead of the upcoming state visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Korea on April 2–3. This milestone comes in a symbolic year marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea, reflecting a long-standing partnership built on trust and shared interests.
In parallel, discussions addressed global economic challenges, including the reduction of macroeconomic imbalances and the development of mutually beneficial international partnerships, in the perspective of the upcoming G7 Summit in France. South Korea’s invitation to participate in the summit further illustrates its growing role on the international stage.
These high-level exchanges confirm the strategic alignment between France and Korea across diplomatic, economic, and security priorities, reinforcing a dynamic partnership in an increasingly complex global environment.
