France Korea Next Generation Season 2 #1 | Sojeong, Salomé and Yoo-Ri’s journeys between France and Korea

Discover young French and Korean professionals’ paths with the second season of FKCCI’s video series “France Korea Next Generation”!

The French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry is pleased to present the second season of its video series "France Korea Next Generation", in partnership with the French Embassy in Korea!

France and Korea are long-time economic partners. In 1886, they first established economic relations through the signature of a treaty of Friendship and Commerce. In the 1960s, these ties reinforced with steadily increasing trade activities and the opening of French companies’ first branches in Seoul. More recently in 2021, bilateral trade exceeded the €10 Bn milestone for the first time.

Made possible by countless French and Koreans before, this special relationship is now in the hands of young professionals ready to take up the torch and work on continuing to bring both countries together.

To celebrate this new generation and encourage the one to come, the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry went to meet young French and Korean professionals, and asked about their path between France and Korea, their bond to their host country, and their advice to those wishing to follow in their footsteps.

Be ready to get inspired!

In the first episode of our series' second season, meet with Sojeong, Salomé and Yoo-Ri, who share about their journeys and passions in France, Korea and beyond!

Sojeong JEONG

Sojeong, 29 years old, obtained a Master's degree at ESSEC Business School and lived in France for 2.5 years between 2016 and 2018. She developed her international career path as a Human Resources professional while working at the global and regional headquarters of two French companies, L'Oreal and Lacoste, for 3.5 years. Her valuable experiences at the world-class French companies led her to accomplish her dream to join the United Nations headquarter in New York. For So Jeong, Paris is an undeniably attractive city to start a new adventure that opens up many more career opportunities ahead.

Salomé DUBOIS

Salomé, 32 years old, fell in love with Korea at age 16 through Bong Joon-ho and Kim Ki-duk’s movies. Following several trips and a working holiday visa in Seoul, she decided to settle in Korea on the long-term in 2017, first as a film student at the prestigious Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), now as a full-time filmmaker and photographer. After her graduation in 2018, she was notably first assistant director for the long-feature film “Fighter” by Yun Jero (2020). Passionate about her art and sensitive to Korean movies’ peculiar style and complex characters, she works in Korean and within Korean teams – a difficult yet intense experience that she finds particularly fulfilling.

Yoo-Ri CHUNG

Yoo-Ri, 42 years old, is an ophthalmologist as well as a professor at Ajou university's medical school. She initially learned French in her childhood, as she lived in France for 2 years due to her father’s study. After completing her medical educations, residency, and fellowship in ophthalmology in Korea, she applied to DFMSA (Diplôme de Formation Médicale Spécialisée Approfondie) and could join this 1-year training program in French university hospitals, open to doctors and specialists speaking French. This program let her experience ocular diseases rarely presented in Korea, by working as FFI (Faisant Fonction Interne) at CHU Bicêtre in 2011-2012. She is now practicing at Ajou university hospital for patients with retinal diseases, and doing associated researches.
